Frequently Asked Questions about Volunteering

What can volunteers do?

Once you have completed your volunteer orientation, have signed all documentation and waivers, and have become approved by the staff, you will be able to assist at several locations. Volunteer activities may include general maintenance duties around facilities, feeding, cleaning, grooming, walking, throwing the ball, petting, brushing, or just sitting with the animal.  You can spend as little or as much time as you wish, but all times must be scheduled ahead of time and you must be willing to assist where needed. This may include cleaning the stalls, washing a dog, applying topicals, assisting with landscape, etc.  See our specialized list.

Scheduling your volunteer time

Each animal area has a maximum number of volunteers it can accommodate daily. Please contact manager of the ranch you are interested in assisting with in order to make arrangements prior to your arrival. This will ensure that you get to volunteer in your favorite animal areas.

Who can volunteer?

Those between the ages of twelve and seventeen may volunteer at the discretion of the staff if accompanied by parent or guardian (some places may have additional restrictions). For safety reasons, children twelve and under cannot volunteer on the ranches, (but certainly may visit if accompanied by a guardian).  They can, however assist at adoption events. Transporters must have their own vehicle, be 18 or older and have current insurance, registration and a driver’s license. Please provide a copy of these documents to us for our records.

Can I bring my pet?

Please leave your pet(s) at home as they tend to excite our rescued animals. We prefer to maintain a peaceful, calm environment.
